SnapDragon Overview

SnapDragon is a unique editor just for creating origami fortune tellers. SnapDragon app makes it easy to add images and text to each of the panels that make up a folded paper toy. When done, print the PDF on standard paper, trim away the blank paper to just the printed square and fold!

Make a fortune teller by opening SnapDragon app on your iPhone or iPad. Add text, choose fonts and colors, or images from your Camera Roll. There is even a Preview animation so that you can see your creation in action while you create and before printing.

When the design is complete, choose the PDF icon and share it to a printer (or email or iMessage to a friend!) SnapDragon makes an 8”x8” image so it will print nicely on 8 ½”x11 or A4 paper. Once the image is printed, trim away the extra paper around the square image and fold!

SnapDragon fortune tellers can be made into whatever you want — unique invitations, party favors, greeting cards, learning tools, promotions, joke books, photo albums. Just create, print, and fold!

Snap Dragon app features include —

  • An editor for each panel to add text (including emoji) and place images. Choose text colors and fonts. Pick background colors.

  • Built-in image morphing so images look ‘right’ when viewed at an angle on a folded Fortune Teller. (Images will look goofy when the fortune teller is first printed out — not to worry! Folding fixes puts the images right.)

  • An animation player animates the project open, close and unfolding to the flat page. Pause animation and use gestures to view it from different angles. Drag the play button to advance or replay.

  • A Q&A editor created to make it extra easy to get matched pairs of questions and responses on the right panels. This alternative editor is especially great for creating learning drills, invitation details, joke books, or other planned messages where panels need to be paired to each other.

  • Creation of a PDF to Print and Share. Also, the SnapDragon file itself can be shared to a friend with SnapDragon so they can edit your creation on their device using SnapDragon.

  • Easy to follow folding instructions to view or print.

Folding Instructions — a one-page PDF to reference or print

Press the big diamond button to begin creating.

2. Open project overview page

Projects open to this main editing page. It shows all the panels in the Fortune Teller. Overall styling, set font and colors for text and background on all panels, is done with the paintbrush icon.

Cover — The square button at the top is the cover of the Fortune Teller.

Inside panels — The diamond buttons to the sides show the inside panels that are opened one way or the other.

Messages — The diamond at the bottom has the responses or hidden messages that are revealed when a side is unfolded.

Tap any ‘+’ to open the cover, a panel or messages to begin.

3. Edit project panels

The side menus control what is active on the main display. The menu has a blue highlight to indicate what is active on the layout.

Panels in a layout can be a mix of text and images. Just tap a panel to select it. The side menu helps you keep track of the possibilities.

Use the paint brush to set font and colors for text and background on all the panels at once. Tap a panel to edit its content, fonts and background color.

Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed — think of it like this — the combinations in the side menu are like the choices you can make when you draw a Fortune Teller on paper.

4. Content editors

4a. Text and Images editor

Text and Emoji

Tap to raise the keyboard. As you type, you’ll notice text automatically resizes to fit the shape. SnapDragon will orient the text so it is facing the right way in the folded project. Controls to change font color, font and copy/paste/delete are on the keyboard.

Use the icons to rotate, resize or color the background. Or pinch/zoom to size and position. Double-tap to re-center.

Images

The camera and photos icons add images to a panel. SnapDragon will handle slicing and slightly morphing the image so it comes back together and ‘looks right’ in the folded project.

Use the icons to rotate, resize or color the background. Or pinch/zoom to size and position. Double-tap to re-center.

4b. Q&A editor

For projects that are text based and have definite pairs of messages and responses, the Q&A editor is a quick way to make a Fortune Teller because you can add content to a list rather than by panel and the menu shows an overview of what’s been entered. SnapDragon handles orienting text so it can be properly read in the folded project.

The keyboard has icons to set the font, color of text and background for each message and response. Use the paint brush icon to set font and colors for text and background across the entire list.

Of course, after adding text pairs, the project can be opened in the panel editor so images can be added.

5. Print and fold Fortune Teller

The Print PDF icon is at the top of most pages. It builds the PDF and offers a Share button to print or share the PDF with friends.

The PDF prints 8”x8” — so it will fit nicely on standard printer paper, 8 ½” x 11 or A4. However, there are rare situations where a printer will cutoff an image. If this happens to you, open the Fortune Teller in the app and open Settings ‘•••’ on the home page and follow the notes to adjust the Printer Safety Margin.

The app includes a PDF with easy to follow folding instructions. Opens with the icon on the home page.

It can be helpful to view your Fortune Teller before printing. Just tap Play to see an animation. It shows the Fortune Teller opening and closing and ends unfolded. The play can be controlled — just tap the pause button to stop — then drag the play bar to control the animation.
