Make an SVG file of a custom graph paper?

About SVG
SVG is a special file format. The letters 'SVG' are short for Scalable Vector Graphics. What is especially interesting about SVG to makers and creators is this is the file format accepted by many laser cutters and cutting machines. [QuiltPaper and GridMaker offer three, file formats SVG, PNG, and PDF.  This means layouts created by QuiltPaper and Gridmaker have a high likelihood of being accepted by many devices and software applications.]

Why the SVG file format can be useful for Quilters
Silhouette and Cricut are two popular cutting machines. Both import SVG files, which means shapes created in QuiltPaper or GridMaker can be opened and used to create your own unique shapes. If your projects need  cut shapes, QuiltPaper or GridMaker may be all you need to make custom sizes and you can skip expense and time to learn a vector-based software program such as Adobe Illustrator.

1.Create a Grid Paper with the shapes at the actual size you need

This example creates a template for 1½" hexagons for material that is 12"x12".

Steps:

  1. Open Hexagon Paper

  2. Set hexagon size to 1 ½".

  3. Open Page Settings:
    • Set paper to Custom
    • Set page size to 12" x 12" 
    • Set margins to 0" to maximize the number of hexagons that will fit

2. Share as an SVG file and 'Save to Files'

Open Share.

Tap SHARE SVG button, then 'Save to Files'.

3. Transfer file to destination device or software application.
