How will YOU use QuiltSandwich?
QuiltSandwich is different from other quilting apps in that it is a planning tool for materials not a design tool. It was created working closely with a quilter. Here are her insights on getting started with Quilt Sandwich.
Here is how she uses Quilt Sandwich —
To confirm kit instructions using the Yardage Calculator cutting diagram to ensure she will get the number of pieces needed before cutting.
At the cutting table for a realistic estimate of how much yardage to buy.
For fabric selection using the Fabric Library to carry and organize pictures of her fabrics on her iPhone.
Give confidence to creating and sewing her own quilt designs. She trusts the accuracy of the calculators and cutting diagrams to guide her yardage needs as she pulls fabrics from her stash and buys at the LQS.
QuiltSandwich has both essential & unique tools
QuiltSandwich replaces yardage tables, formula charts, and envelopes of fabric clippings with a set of tools that are always available on your iPhone or iPad.
Yardage calculator handles pieces, sashing, borders, binding, batting and backing. Scroll to find the piece type. The calculator instantly adjusts to make entering the key dimensions easy.
Yardage calculations create a cutting diagram showing how to cut pieces and the scrap.
Options to compare yardage needed for Backing with a vertical or horizontal seam or Binding with straight-grain versus bias seams.
Fabric adjustments — yardage or FatQ, one-way, orientation of fabric grain, or unique allowances.
Plus unique features that help make it easier to manage the complexity of quilting projects —
Project Organizer lists each piece with yardage and assigned fabrics.
Fabric library holds and organizes fabric images so you can carry your stash with you.
Unique notions like Triangle Calculators for Half Rectangle, Half Square, Corner Square, Quarter Square and Side Setting. Also, Color Mix which is a graphical display of the mix of colors in relative proportion in the quilt top(including binding!)
Commonly used notions like enlarge/reduce calculator, collection of popular conversion tables, and table of mattress sizes.
Helpful resources — fabric lists, journal for project notes, and color mix showing color proportions.
Design and make a Pixel Quilt from your own image
The QuiltSandwich team worked with Color Hints Mosaic to transform a pixelated image made by Color Hints Mosaic into a quilt pattern. Once the pixelated image is made, it is imported into QuiltSandwich. On import, QuiltSandwich asks for the size to make the patchwork blocks, it uses the block size to calculate the overall size of the quilt and gives you a chance to make adjustments. On your approval, QuiltSandwich, builds a project with the yardage needed for each color and a Journal with the pattern and instructions.

List of QuiltSandwich Features
The Yardage Calculator figures yardage using the Finished Size and Number of Pieces for Rectangles or Squares, Triangles, Sashing, Borders, Binding, Backing, and Batting. Fabric can be calculated in Yardage or Fat Quarters. Adjust settings for Seam, Shrinkage, Selvage and Cut Edge allowances for unique projects or fabrics.
The Yardage Calculator has two cutting diagram settings, find least yardage or for one-way fabrics force layout to crosswise grain.
Yardage is calculated for each unique piece shape. (When a fabric is used by multiple pieces, it may be possible to purchase less fabric by considering the scrap shown in the individual cutting diagrams.)
Fabric images are added from the iPhone or iPad image library. Fabrics can be added immediately to a project or added to the Fabric Stash and later assigned to projects.
Compare fabric images side-by-side.
Check quilt top color and tone balance with Color Mix.
Settings defined in QuiltSize app can be exported into QuiltSandwich. During the import all the pieces, plus binding, backing and batting are added. Placeholder blocks must be replaced with the planned block pieces.
Pixel Quilts designed in Color Hints Mosaic app can be exported to QuiltSandwich and a Journal is created with the pattern. Pieces are listed with color tiles from Color Hints Mosaic and their yardage.
Share and Archive tool offers two features. Share a QuiltSandwich pattern to another QuiltSandwich user or share to another device using email or Archive.
App Images manager tool manages the images imported into QuiltSandwich. It does NOT affect images in the Photo Library.
No ads or InApp Purchases.
